This was our first time at The Georgia Mountain Center. Parking was fair. The facility was nice, clean, well kept. Not great acoustics. Unfortunately, it doesn’t make any difference because on Dec. 15, 2012, Brenau College is leasing the entire center. The 2,500-seat arena will no longer be available for rent. Thanks for nothing Gainesville City Council!
We were joined at this event by my oldest daughter, Brandy, and 3½ year old grandson, Mik, who enjoys everything he does with Pop-Pop and Heather.
- Hayes Family – I’m sorry, but they were really bad! When the mother and the sister playing the keyboard harmonized, it actually hurt my ears. Not just because it was way too loud, but it was bad. Others went out to the lobby to get away until the next group came on.
- Michael Combs – Good set by him. He did all his standards, with many standing and raising their hands. My 3½ year old grandson was standing in the aisle by me mimicking his gestures and head shakes that Michael does at lot to get his hair out of his face.
- Inspirations – This was definitely one of their better performances, powerful!
- Triumphant Quartet – David Sutton, their tenor was not there. His wife had some unexpected surgery so he stayed home. Jeff Stice, the pianist, tried to fill in the 4th part. He did ‘fair’, the overall performance was well beneath their normal excellence. It was my oldest daughter’s first time hearing them. She certainly didn’t see why we drove 7 hours and were exited for her to see them. She lives up there, not us. Clayton Inman’s White Flag of Surrender was perfect! Heather keeps white handkerchiefs in her purse for Triumphant and The McKameys. I, #1 daughter Brandy, #2 daughter Heather, and Grandson Mik were waving our white flags.
